A fairly large growing species that is widespread in Brazil from Bahia south to below Sao Paulo and in habitats ranging from Atlantic Rainforest, cloud forest to grasslands as an epiphyte, saxicole or terrestrial. A broad, open rosette of light green leaves with dark green spotting. The infloresence is a cup or tulip shaped head on a tall pink scape with stiff, spiny, bracts in a stellate formation. Beautiful and uncommon in cultivation.
