A smallish (compared to many) species from the hot deserts and rocky hillsides of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Living in rocky soil and on rocks, in the dry scrub and deciduous tropical forests, in full sun.  The leaves are heavily spined, but not as much as some species, and the leaves pale green that blushes pink in the full sun.  A stoloniferous species, a rare trait in Hechtia.  The inflorescence is about 24 inches tall with many branches and bears small, white flowers, the female flowers with red ovaries.
