Bromelia antiacantha

Out of Stock

A large growing, wickedly spiny species from Southeastern Brazil to Uruguay. Noted to be somewhat cold hardy to light frost, it makes a bold choice for landscape use in zones 9 and above. The plant produces a spectacular show when blooming with the entire central section of the plant blushing vivid red and an erect inflorescence with whitish bracts and white-tipped purple-blue flowers. After blooming it produces large, edible fruits called banana-do-mato in Brazil. PLEASE NOTE:  The photos show a blooming plant of the variegated clone of this species.  The plants associated with this offering are not variegated.
