Billbergia brasiliensis (DJC Bolivia)

Out of Stock

This plant was collected by us in Bolivia, before it was later described as Billbergia kuhlmannii. It has subsequently been reassigned to Bil. brasiliensis. We found this plant in the relatively low altitude foothills of the eastern Andes, growing epiphytically in a hot valley. The plants were filled with soil and ants! We had to clean them well before putting them in to the vehicle. A large grower to nearly three feet tall, with thick leaves forming a stiff tube. Very tough and hardy. The inflorescence is spectacular, a pink-bracted pendant spike with the classic ‘clock spring’ flowers of the helicoid group of Bils.
