Aechmea arenaria

Out of Stock

A uniquely spiny, strange-looking plant that transforms into a beauty at bloom time. The many narrow leaves are extremely spiny, with black, hooked spines that are very sharp. The green coloration gives way to a brilliant red blush at anthesis, with a head of stiff red, white-tipped bracts. A species of the Amazonian slopes of the Andes in northern Peru and adjacent Ecuador. Rare in cultivation.
