Young plants have more conical spines and begin early to swell nicely, branch and even flower. The foliage is green with a slightly fuzzy surface. Nice fat 3in tall branching seedlings in 4in pots,
$10.00 #820
Philodendron billietiae A relatively new species (Croat '95) from French Guiana that has great ornamental potential. A climber that is described as a hemi-epiphyte, it has long, narrowly triangular leaves. The upper part has two lobes which are quite long and narrow and the lower part can reach over 30in and only be 3 to 4in wide. Young plants start out with reddish leaves and mature plants in bright light develop a yellowish coloration. A rare, showy species. Rooted cuttings in 5in pots,
$17.50 #4527
Philodendron brandtianum A showy rarity from Western Brazil to Ecuador and Peru. A climber with leaves marked with silvery variegation that slowly fades with maturity. The interesting thing is that it must grow upright and quite tall to achieve the mature leaves. So, under most conditions, the plant can be kept smaller and will retain the juvenile leaf shape and coloration. Mature plants have saggitate leaves up to 18in long, but juvenile leaves are 3 to 4in. Nice full 5in pots with 4 to 5 cutting each,
$20.00 #4382

The markings and color are just like those of S. trifasciata. This plant has a mostly smooth surface. The leaves 3 or 4 to a growth, grow in a fan-like shape and can reach to 4 feet. From Angola. Five, 12in-plus cuttings in a 4in pot,

Sedeveria 'Blue Moon'   Beautiful bluishgray, forming ’stacked’ flower-like rosettes up to 4in across and 6in high. An easy growing species that does well in a hanging pot, as the plant stems become elongated they hang over the edge with age as new plants form to fill the pot. 4in pots,
$5.00 #2937

$5.00 #1737
Stephania perrieri  This interesting plant from Thailand has a thick caudex with fairly smooth reddish skin, and a woody vine with many rounded, peltate leaves. An unusual feature is red sap. Eventually will form a massive caudex. 6in pots.
$20.00 #3887

Collector’s Corner …

Synandrospadix vermitoxicus One truly bizarre aroid from Southern Peru and Bolivia to Argentina. Somewhat resembling an Alocasia, it is a self-heading rosette of shiny, deep-green, sagittate leaves on thick petioles that are light green with broken dark lines. The inflorescence is interesting, a spathe with light striping inside and out and a bristly, corn cob shaped spadix of purple. A tuber forming plant that goes dormant in winter. The tubers are large and can reach almost five pounds and the plants themselves about 3ft across. The name means literally ‘worm killer’ and probably refers to use by indigenous peoples to control intestinal parasites. Don’t try this at home! Nice seedlings in 4in pots,
$15.00 #6772
