Tillandsia 'Chiquininga' (fasciculata x ionantha) A hybrid made by the late Luis Ariza, well known bromeliad hybridist from the Dominican Republic. This same cross is also known as nidus and 'Fortin Jalapa' as it has both been crossed by others and is often found occurring naturally wherever both parent species live together. This one was made with one of the small growing fasciculatas native to the D.R.
$10.00 #5253
Tillandsia 'Creation' A stunning hybrid of Til. cyanea and platyrhachis. Growing to about 24in across, with stiff, narrow, greenish-red, slightly striated leaves and a massive spectacular inflorescence of multiple paddle-shaped branches, bright pink with lovely purple fragrant-flowers. Easy to grow and a faithful bloomer. Cultivate potted, as with Til. cyanea. Budded plants in 6in pots,
 $35.00 #1516
Tillandsia 'Ervin Wurthman' (tricolor x fasciculata) A robust plant to about 24in, with narrow, gracefully arching reddish, somewhat silver dusted leaves in an upright rosette. The inflorescence is a tall red and yellow scape that is usually well branched. Easily adaptable to pot culture, ours are large plants,
$20.00 #332
Tillandsia mallemontii A surprising little plant from Eastern Brazil. Growing in colonies of a few to many dozen plants, it is nearly always covered with many large purple, fragrant flowers. Certainly one of the easiest of all Tillandsias to grow. Enjoys good air circulation, medium to bright shaded conditions and frequent watering with fast drying. May be mounted or just suspended from a string for wonderful results. Small clump,
 $4.00 #257
Tillandsia 'Mystic Albert' (albertiana x stricta) (Dimmitt) An interesting plant with a 6in stem covered with dark purple-green, shiny leaves. The inflorescence is short with red flowers.
$6.00 #2749
Tillandsia punctulata An unusual species with smooth green leaves which form a dark, almost black, bulbous base. The inflorescence is an inflated spike with orange bracts. Grows in cooler, moist forests, so may not do well in dry or very hot climates.
$3.00 #290
Tillandsia rotundata This handsome plant to 24in tall, has narrow upright leaves of silver-dusted green. Named for the inflorescence which is a tight cluster of red-orange branches forming an almost round club-like head. Native to the pine forests of Central America, it grows mounted or potted in bark or other loose media.
$10.00 #500
Tillandsia seleriana With a base about as thick as a tennis ball and leaves that are tightly closed at the top, it has the general shape of a turnip! Native to Mexico and Central America where it grows mostly in pine forests above 2,000 feet. Grows best if mounted sideways!
$7.50 #308
Tillandsia streptophylla  In a class by itself. Extremely bulbous with strap-like leaves that hang about the plant in tight curls. Very unusual and pretty. When in bloom, produces a tall, branched spike of pink, with curly scape bracts. Native to mangroves and coastal forests at or near sea level. Easy to cultivate. We have large plants,
$15.00 #317L
Tillandsia stricta x ixioides A possible natural hybrid, though I am not sure if the two species overlap. Anyway it occurred in a collection of plants imported years ago. A 6in stiff, gray-leaved rosette with pale, papery bracts and yellowish-white flowers that turn light blue after fading.
$10.00 #5720
Vriecantarea ‘Inferno’ A spectacular hybrid of (Vriesea ensiformis x Alcantarea regina) by John Arden. A large, robust grower up to 3ft across, with an inflorescence that can attain 6ft or more. The inflorescence is a massive spike with long red branches and yellow flowers. Outstanding big plants in 8in pots, (not in bud)
$50.00 #6291
Vriesea gigantea 'Nova' A spectacular Brazilian bromeliad which reaches impressive sizes, suitable for landscaping and interiorscape use. A wide leaved, funnel-form rosette to well over 30in, with bluish-green leaves, reticulated and striated with light green. As the plant matures, the striations become almost white. A slow grower that makes a great terrarium plant when young. 4in pots,
 $8.00 #631S
Vriesea 'Kallisto' A small to medium hybrid with bright green leaves and a bright red, branched inflorescence. Real nice. Small plants in 4in pots,
$8.00 #2941
Werauhia sanguinolenta 'Rubra' A fairly giant grower with deep burgundy colored leaves that can reach the ultimate size of nearly 3ft long and 6in wide. This beautiful  fast growing foliage plant, native to Central and northern South America, is seldom seen in cultivation. We have highly colored young plants in 6in pots, only
$15.00 #684S
Werauhia kupperiana A spectacular beauty. Large grower with stiff shiny leaves up to 5in wide, green with heavy speckling and mottling. Grows epiphytically or on moist ground in nature from Costa Rica to Ecuador and adapts well to pot culture. This clone, from Panama, is a compact grower and the best of the bunch. Keep somewhat moist and shaded to grow best. Beautiful, full, seed-grown plants about 24in cross in 6in pots,
$45.00 #483

Collector’s Corner …

Aechmea egleriana  An outstanding rarity, oft confused with Ae. polyantha because of an early illustration by Margaret Mee. If you have seen this illustration of a massively bulbous, spiny Aechmea with amultiplebranched panicle of berries, then this is the plant. Only the name in her book is wrong. Extremely desirable, this plant remains rare in cultivation. It is not difficult to grow, but is cold tender. Vigorous 10in tall seedlings, already forming a bulbous base, in 4in pots,
