Aechmea blanchetiana An
Inhabitant of the restinga of Brazil, a sandy coastal strip with sparse
cover, consisting mainly of cacti and thorny scrub, growing in the full
tropical sun. Bright conditions often color blanchetiana in
glowing orange hues. A large grower well suited to landscape use,
reaching over 3ft in height, with a heavily branched panicle of orange
berries to 6ft tall. We have nice seedlings grown from wild taken seed,
about 18in tall in 6in pots for only $10.00 #5654 |

Aechmea cylindrata 'Bicolor' This
rare novelty is a variegated sport of the typical form, with light-green
variegation on a dark-green leaf. The inflorescence is a cylindrical spike
of light blue flowers and pink sepals. Not a knock-out, but a colorful,
faithful bloomer that is a nice addition to your collection. 5in pots,
$15.00 #4577 |

Aechmea manzanaresiana An
excellent species coming from the eastern slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes.
An epiphyte with a stiff leaved upright open rosette, small but stiff spines
and a stoloniferous habit, forming massive colonies 50 to 100 feet off the
ground. The magnificent inflorescence is a cluster of 20 to 50 branches
vividly colored almost fluorescent orange. 6in. $25.00 #1362 |

Aechmea mariae-reginae A
magnificent beauty! A giant grower that forms a grayish rosette to 4ft
across. The bloom is spectacular, a compound head of small flowers
forming a white, cone-like inflorescence about the size and shape of a
large ear of corn, with very large, vivid rose pink scape bracts.
Endemic to Costa Rican lowlands. 24in, vigorous seedlings in 5in pots.
$15.00 #2776S |

Alcantarea imperialis 'Purple'
This new color form is a knockout, with leaves deep burgundy to purplish as
they mature. Color will intensify in stronger light. Other than the color,
this is a perfectly typical Alcantarea imperialis. Excellent
wide-leaved seedlings, about 12in tall in 6in pots, $17.50 #875S |

Araeococcus flagellifolius A
clustering plant to 30in tall with reddish, whip-like leaves and a bulbous
base about an inch in diameter. The habit is erect and slightly arching. The
inflorescence is a short panicle of berries that forms low in the foliage.
An oddity for sure, but has great appeal as a pot or basket plant. Nice
large seedlings in 4in pots, $6.00 #1145 |
||||
![]() |
Araeococcus goeldianus This
species is an upright, tubular rosette, with broad, very spiny,
coppery-colored leaves that curl downwards reminiscent of Billbergia
leptopoda. The nice large, erect, many-branched inflorescence is a
bonus. Still uncommon in collections. Nice offsets, only $5.00 #5316P |

Guzmania andreettae From
Ecuador's Cutucu mountains, is a decorative foliage plant. Banded leaves
form an upright rosette to 30in or so. The banding is chocolate brown over
light green, lovely. This rare plant is practically unknown in cultivation
and will surely be a hit with Guzmania fanciers. Native to altitudes
between 1000 and 3000 feet or so, it grows well under 'normal' conditions at
sea level. Not at all difficult. Mature sized plants in 6in pots, $35.00 #1400 |
||||

Guzmania elvallensis This easy to
grow Panamanian species is a small to medium sized green leaved rosette with
a club-like inflorescence of orange to red. A fairly new species, rare in

Luther says it has affinity with Guz. madisonii. A medium grower with
a showy, branched, red inflorescence and white flowers. Most blooming, 4in
pots, $25.00 #2126 |
