Mounting Tillandsias Is Fun And Easy!

Mounting or attaching Tillandsias to wood, cork or a similar substrate is not only a great way to grow and display your plants, but is fun to do. Dealing with plants that don’t require soil is sometimes a baffling mystery to beginners. It need not be. Tillandsias are among the hardiest and easiest plants to grow and with minimal care, thrive to bloom and grow for many years. Here are a few tips to help you get started with mounting your plants.

      1.        Select a single or several Tillandsias, suitable for mounting.
2.
Next choose a suitable substrate, any material with a rough, or porous surface. Attach a hanging hook if  required.
3.
Use adhesive, such as Liquid Nails, to attach the plants by applying a generous dab near the base (no hot glue).
4.
Hold the plant firmly in place with wire or even a rubber band until the adhesive sets.
5.
For larger plants, staple a wire to the substrate first, then apply the adhesive and the plant, and tighten the wire.
6.
Place in bright light with good air circulation, water thoroughly two or three times weekly and fertilize monthly.

Then just enjoy!
