Guzmania ‘Georgia’ Here’s a little intrigue for you. Last issue of the Cargo Report we offered Guz. ‘Rana’ variegata, a fairly rare sport, for $45. Well, we shipped a few, then Corn Bak, the owner of the ‘Rana’ patent in Holland, decided that they did not want this clone released! So, if you got one, consider yourself lucky. Please note that it is protected by a patent. The folks at Corn Bak suggested that we offer instead, Guz. ‘Georgia’, a recently released  sport of ‘Rana’, beautifully variegated, and in our opinion, prettier. They made some nice plants available to us, big beauties in bud, in 6in pots, and cheaper too, at only
$25.00 each! #6933

4242-2.jpg (20493 bytes)

Neoregelia carcharodon ‘Tiger’ This plant has become a superstar since its limited introduction just a couple of years ago, finding a ready market at high prices at bromeliad conventions and shows. A spectacular, large-growing plant with heavy reddish-brown bars across light green leaves. Large marginal spines line the wide, stiff leaves. A superior plant for hybridizing, Hanibal Lector being an example. It should be noted that this plant has no official botanical status. It was brought into cultivation by Chester Skotak after having found it in a Brazilian collection. Lacking a better description for now, it is being referred to as carcharodon cv. Tiger. The ‘real’ carcharodon is unknown and may not be in cultivation at all. Note that this plant has sold consistently for $150. We have large offsets, lowest price ever,
$50.00 #4242P

$3.00 #2210P

$45.00 #1375

3473.jpg (31706 bytes)

Neoregelia ‘Castigado’ What a beauty! Outstanding in every way, it’s large and symmetrical with wide leaves and gorgeous color. One of Chester Skotak’s, and because it is very slow growing, and there were never many of them, it is very rare in collections. The wide leaves are deep green with bold creamy-white central variegation. There is ample concentric banding and dark glazing. As the plant matures, it becomes darker and darker, especially from the leaf tips inward, until the plant is nearly black. The center flush is a deep, rich purple. We have only sold a few of these over the past several years, and most of them went overseas. Our ‘regular’ price for offsets is $135.00. We have a few rooted offsets, at only
75.00 each. #3473

In general, the plants are medium sized, to about 24in, very stiff leaved with stout spines, and boldly banded with reddish-brown over green. The three clones vary, but not a lot, some with more or less banding, but all equally nice. First Cargo Report release, very large offsets, limited.
