BROMELIADS
Vriesea botafogensis
4443
An interesting and rare plant from the exposed granite cliffs at the entrance to Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Resembling the much more familiar Vr. saundersii, it is smaller, about 6 inches across, with deeply recurving, broad, leathery leaves that are heavily speckled with red below and sparingly above. The inflorescence is a panicle of dense yellow branches on a 12 inch scape.
Vriesea fenestralis

This Brazilian beauty is a splendid foliage plant with wide light green leaves, finely lineated and reticulated with green and spotted with red. The shape is a full, open rosette to over 24 inches with leaves that gracefully curl down toward their tips. Even though it reaches a large size, young plants are great for terrariums.

Encholirium diamantinum

The plant size is good and all are worth the price.
Neoregelia 'Okapi'
2658
A miniature hybrid from Vinzant is a cultivar of ‘Screaming Tiger’ x ‘Doodlebug’. The plant is vase shaped with a slightly flaring top. The color is a deep chocolate burgundy with yellow banding, with the leaf axils almost solid yellow. The banding seems to be in the middle portion of the plant. There is no color change at anthesis. Offsets before anthesis, with offsets on stolons.

Neoregelia martinellii (Green)
2194
A small upright, stoloniferous species who’s chief value is as a botanical because it lacks many decorative qualities. However, I and many others feel that a species plant doesn't have to be beautiful to be appreciated, and that little plants like this have their own charm. Makes a decorative cluster, good for hanging pot culture.

Neoregelia 'Infamous'
Orthophytum compactum SEL2003-0099
5516
A species from Minas Gerais with a most enigmatic and seemingly unsuitable name. Anyone familiar with this plant would hardly say that it is compact in any way. A rather gangly species with leaves to 24 inches long that are semi-stiff and fairly heavily armed with stout marginal spines. The plant overall without a bloom may more closely bring to mind a Bromelia seedling of some type. The inflorescence is on a tall scape with long scape bracts framing a compact head of short branches with white flowers which was described as “densely compound” by Lyman Smith, and this is likely where the name ‘compactum’ comes from. The scape is floccose with white scales and the leaves are glabrous above and somewhat scurfy below. The color is green with a tendency to turn yellowish in bright light. Offsets are produced on long, slender stolons. Native to the area of the type locality of “Margem da Rodovia Nanuque – Teofilo Otoni, Serra Rochosa” in eastern Minas Gerais on rocky slopes.
Orthophytum 'Iron Ore'
2374
A cultivar of (O. magalhaesii x saxicola v. aloifolium) by Jim Irvin. Wide, dark brownish-orange leaves, heavily covered in silvery scurf, arch handsomely, forming attractive rosettes.
A very easy and rewarding plant to grow.
“Iron ore” is large, twisty and full of barbs. Yes, he’s gnarly, but he is also a very handsome specimen. I like that he came potted. Can’t wait for the inflorescence! Another great Orthophytum from Tropiflora

Nidularium innocentii 'Bahia Variegated'
6424
This plant, in our opinion, is the finest form of Nidularium available. A large-grower with many leaves in a full, symmetrical, open rosette. The foliage is light green with a broad band of white up the center of each leaf. This beautiful form was found growing wild in Bahia, Brazil. It reaches very large proportions if given a larger pot and good growing conditions. A spectacular addition to any bromeliad collection.
Neoregelia 'Yin'
1561
A clone of (carolinae x carcharodon). A handsome Chester Skotak hybrid. A wide leaved beauty in a rather massive rosette to over 30 inches across has much character. A great shape, gracefully arching, rose tinted leaves with nice large but not sharp spines and bold, wide white margins make this a popular choice for container or landscape. Over the years several clones have come about, but this one is the original, and best clone.
